The Jordanian Armed Forces confirmed the participation of the Royal Jordanian Air Force in the US nighttime strikes on Islamic State (ISIS) targets in Syria. These strikes came a week after an attack that killed three Americans in Palmyra, central Syria. In a statement, the Jordanian army said the Royal Air Force carried out "precise air strikes targeting a number of objectives belonging to the ISIS terrorist gang in areas in southern Syria." This operation was conducted as part of the war on terrorism and to prevent extremist organizations from exploiting these areas as launchpads to threaten the security of Syria and the region. Earlier, US officials stated that the US military launched wide-ranging strikes against dozens of ISIS targets in Syria last Friday in response to an attack targeting American soldiers.
