Argentina's national team will face one of its rivals at the upcoming 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada—Jordan. This team was very close to winning an international title but ultimately lost the final of the Arab Cup. According to the Argentine News Agency, the Asian team lost 3-2 to Morocco in a thrilling match held at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, the same venue that hosted the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France. The match took a dramatic turn early on, thanks to a goal that went viral. In the fourth minute, Oussama Tannane surprised everyone with a long-range strike from his own half, taking advantage of goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila being off his line. This goal is already a candidate for the FIFA Puskás Award. Despite the initial shock, Jordan managed to regroup in the second half and turn the game around with a brace from Ali Olwan, first with a header and then from the penalty spot. When victory seemed within Jordan's grasp, Morocco found an equalizer in the dying moments of regular time through Abderrazak Hamdallah, following a sequence of rebounds in the box. In extra time, Jordan celebrated again, but the VAR disallowed the goal for a previous handball, and shortly after, Hamdallah sealed his brace to make it 3-2 in favor of the African team. Thus, Morocco was crowned Arab Cup champion, while Jordan had to settle for runner-up, though the team showed a competitive edge for the future. The team, coached by Jamal Sellami, will be Argentina's opponent in the third and final matchday of Group J at the 2026 World Cup. The match will take place on Saturday, June 27, at 23:00 (Argentine time) at Dallas Stadium in the city of Arlington.
