Jordan's King Abdullah II rejected the expulsion of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as any attempt to annex their lands following statements from U.S. President Donald Trump. The monarch emphasized the importance of stopping settlement activities and rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, highlighting the need for them to remain on their lands.
In a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Abdullah II reaffirmed his stance in favor of the Palestinian cause and in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and intensifying international efforts to provide humanitarian aid to all areas of the enclave.
The Jordanian monarch urged the international community to play a more effective role in stopping the escalation in the West Bank and attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. In this context, he also expressed the need for close coordination with neighbors, in addition to meeting with the Qatari emir to discuss the situation.
Jordan's reaction comes after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Palestinians should leave Gaza because, according to him, it is uninhabitable. This statement generated controversy as Palestinians claim Gaza as part of a future state along with the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Both Jordan and Egypt agreed on the importance of rebuilding the Gaza Strip but without expelling its inhabitants.
