The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation led the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) 'Radiation Protection of Workers Assessment Service' mission to Jordan. This mission is part of the IAEA's support to member states in enhancing their legislative, regulatory, and technical systems for radiation protection, in line with international standards. The mission was conducted in response to an official request from Jordan and hosted by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission. The mission aims to strengthen safety culture and promote sustainable improvement to ensure the highest levels of protection for workers handling radioactive sources. During the visit, the team of experts reviewed Jordan's regulatory framework, technical support services, and protective measures in nuclear, research, medical, and industrial facilities. The mission identified several good practices and recommendations to support the development of the protection system. The head of the mission noted that leading this international mission reflects the depth of cooperation among member states in developing radiation protection frameworks. The assessment team concluded that Jordan has successfully established an effective national framework for worker radiation protection, with opportunities for further development. These assessment missions review national arrangements for protecting workers from radiation exposure, including regulatory systems, technical support services, and prevention, training, and quality management programs. Through technical reviews, national systems are evaluated, regulatory experiences are shared, and development opportunities are explored, enhancing our shared commitment to the highest standards of worker protection. The appointment of the UAE authority to lead this mission reflects the high level of international confidence in Emirati capabilities in managing international missions and highlights the growing role of the UAE in supporting global efforts to advance the radiation safety sector.
