The text has been edited to change Article 31 in the amended draft of the labor law, which resulted in discontent among the unions and workers' organizations in Jordan. The amendment, aimed at one side - the employer to the detriment of the employee, poses a threat to social stability and increases the level of unemployment.
"As a result of the amendment, approved by the parliamentary committee on labor, social development, and demographics, employers are now allowed to reduce the workforce, replace one production system with another, or completely cease operations, concluding contracts with 5% of workers in enterprises during the year, provided that the Ministry of Labor is notified."
"Deputies also supported the amendment that prohibits employers from dismissing women who are in the period of maternity leave or a declared leave of absence, while the previous law prohibited dismissals of female employees from the sixth month of pregnancy and during the period of declared leave of absence."
"Observers believe that the 'Labor Law' will become the first real implication between deputies and constituents, through which the degree of fulfillment of their obligations will be measured and which they gave their constituents."
