Court in Amman Sentences to Death for Mother's Murder

The Upper Court of First Instance in Jordan's capital, Amman, yesterday issued a death sentence for a 20-year-old man who stabbed his mother to death and ran over a relative. According to the case details, on May 29, 2025, at 1 a.m., the defendant returned home late at night, entered the kitchen, and came back to his mother holding a knife. He then stabbed her multiple times in various parts of her body until the knife broke. He then went to get another knife and resumed stabbing her until she died. However, he did not stop there; he attempted to set the house on fire using a gas cylinder, cutting off the valve and trying several times to ignite a fire, but his attempts failed. Afterward, he got into his car and rammed the house wall, then went directly to his cousin after he left the house and ran him over, causing him various injuries before the defendant was handed over to the Public Security Directorate. It was determined that the cause of the victim's death was multiple stab wounds with blood accumulations in the lungs, abdomen, liver, and left kidney, along with other serious injuries. After being investigated by the Criminal Prosecutor's Office, he was charged with four counts, including: premeditated murder of a relative, attempted murder, attempted arson in a populated place, and the misdemeanor of harming others. The First Division sentenced the defendant to death by hanging, and the decision is appealable.
